“Still tasting as if it was 7-8 years of age,the dense garnet/purple-colored 1986 Gruaud-Larose is evolving at a glacial pace. The wine still has mammoth structure, tremendous reserves of fruit and concentration and a finish which lasts close to a minute. The wine is massive, very impressively constituted, with some mouth-searing tannin to shed.Decanting of one to two hours in advance seems to soften it a bit,but this seems to be a wine that is immortal in terms of longevity. It is a great Medoc classic and certainly one of the most magnificent Gruaud-Laroses ever made.Anticipated maturity:2005-2035”.

The most recent tasting note on the 1986 Gruaud-Larose from the Wine Cellar Insider:-
“4 hours in the decanter helped bring this often, tannic beast into the zone. With notes of cedar, tobacco leaf, forest leaf, smoke and cassis, the wine offered power, structure, depth of flavor and a full-bodied blast of dark red, chewy fruits that hung in there. This is a super example of classic Bordeaux that is a pleasure to drink. You can easily hold this for 20 more years or pop a cork tonight”.
