Description

No Reserve set on this auction lot.

“A hot summer and thick-skinned grapes seem to have saved the vintage from the bad rain. This impressive ’94 shows balance and refined tannins, but the finish is a bit chewy and hard now. Beautifully fresh and clean, with subtle vanilla, blackberry, spice, mocha and chocolate.–La Chapelle vertical”.

(90 Points).

Wine Spectator.

“A dark ruby/plum color, the bouquet offers scents of damp forest, underbrush, prune, truffles, and roasted meats. Medium-bodied, soft, attractively rich, fresh, and vigorous, this excellent La Chapelle can be drunk now, or aged for 15 more years”.

(89 Points).

Robert Parker.  (The Wine Advocate.  June 2000).

“Very deep ruby/black. Nose is quite plummy and deep. Much more evolved. Notes of bacon fat. Very unctuous and delicious in the mouth. Full-bodied with very rich, ripe fruit. Still has good tannic backbone and will keep, but drinking really well”.

(92 Points).

Tom Cannavan.  (Wine Pages. 1/1/1999)

Jancis Robinson also awarded this wine with 92 Points. (12/6/2018).

A more recent tasting note on the 1994 Hermitage La Chapelle on Cellartracker:-

“Very good bottle. Served along side 1997 (magnum) and 1999 and it was my favorite of the three”.
