“Solid, round, rather toasty and interesting. Though lots of dry-grown type tannin on the finish that could make it difficult to fly as early as 2009.”

Initially I was a bit worried this was past its best, but after a couple of hours in the decanter it showed much better. Cassis, dried currants, blackcurrant leaf, slightly gravelly with fresh menthol notes on the nose. Glossy texture initially, lots of blackcurrant fruit, eucalyptus and tobacco and balanced acidity. The finish, partly due to the tannins is slightly drying but overall a very enjoyable wine showing excellent Coonawarra typicity.

Truffle Dinner 2013 (Sydney, Australia): Pencil shavings, tobacco, earth and some grilled vegetables. Very representative of the Coonawarra. Fresh and youthful on the palate, it exudes composure and class. Restrained fruit and a drive towards the finish. Very good.
