2000 Chateau Puygueraud (89pts WS, 87pts RP) – NO RESERVE

Winning Bid: £17.00

Single 75cl bottle.

Wine Offer Status: Duty Paid, no VAT payable

No reserve on this auction.

Parker’s early note from 2003:

A potential sleeper of the vintage, the deep ruby-colored 2000 is fatter and sweeter than the 2001, with soft tannin. It should drink well for 7-8 years.

I’ve drunk this wine recently and am happy to report that Parker underestimated its longevity! It’s a delightful surprise from the lesser known right bank appellation of Cotes de Franc.

Some recent Cellartracker notes:

Mineral nose with dark fruits. The wine still has lots of tannin, but works well with the fruits and finishing with silky chocolate. A food wine.

Okay so this bottle was a bit better than my last one. Classic Bordeaux nose of cedar, tobacco, and leather. I’d say these are at peak or starting to fade. This bottle retained a dark fruit core to compliment earthy savory flavors. Unfortunately it feels like it’s starting to dry out on the finish. I need to locate my last bottle and drink it up.

Decant for an hour. Garnet ruby red, nose with currant, plum, wild cherry, good concentration at peak, earthy, mineral, velvet tannins, black currant, a bit of tar, licorice, plum, good balance, lovely finish.
