Has definitely improved since the last bottle I tasted two years ago. I suspect it’s one of the earlier drinking 2005s but it is still a relatively young wine. Harmonious wine that is smooth, fresh and balanced. Some dark brooding red fruits on the palate and a continuation that seemed to be a combination of bitter chocolate and rusty iron filings, if you can try to imagine that! Look forward to seeing how this evolves over the next decade.

Decanted for 1-2h, sampled throughout. This is a solid, well made and classic Bdx, consistent with my previous notes. A luscious companion to grilled steak and chicken for dinner tonight, some opulence and comfort on a Fri night. I’ve enjoyed this claret several times over the past 3 years, it has matured into an complex and satisfying margaux with good QPR. Glad I have more.

Dark garnet. Quite aromatic. Palate is very nice – seamless balance and lots of interest. Cigar leaf, spice notes and dark fruit profile. Fine tannins. Medium body and medium length.
This is drinking very well now – I would tend to drink these out to 2020 or so but not much further as I don’t see much further upside and as tertiary flavours take on a bigger part of the profile it will lose some of the fruit. Really superb wine and a great value from Margaux

Medium/full bodied, richly textured with a lush character to the fruit and tannins. Silky, sensuous and charming, the fruit feels great, the finish offers freshness and length along with tension. You can drink this now, or age it for further development. The wine was made blending 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.
