Josh Raynolds’ 2008 review for Vinous:
Deep ruby. Seductive dark berry and kirsch aromas are complicated by musky garrigue, black olive and dark chocolate. Dense blackberry and bitter cherry flavors stain the palate and develop a licorice character with air. Tightens up on the long, chewy finish, which is dominated by tangy red berry fruit. This hugely concentrated wine deftly combines liveliness and power.

Big, aromatic nose of roasted black cherries, loads of sweet herbs de Provence and a bot of grilled meat. Palate has more of the same. Medium-full bodied, roasted/grilled black cherries, herb switches with just enough tannin and acidity to work with beef. Great with char siu beef ribs. Perfectly mature now, drink 2018-2023+. 93

Gorgeous Pegau just about entering its drinking window but one can wait another couple of years before fully enjoying this gem. Suave, inviting, wonderful fruits and its texture is simply divine. Beautiful fruits staring to lose its baby fat, lavander, slight soy, earthy but in the most expressive way. I often tend to refer this Pegau Reservee, when mature, to a most beautiful Viola sound, if one can relay to this. And this ’05 is just about approaching this; a beautiful round and deep wine, with a hint of melancholic quality that makes you contemplate over a sip or two and recall some old and beautiful memories. Some wine does that to you and this Pegau is sure one of those rare ones. Cheers,

Earth and garrigue come through but the fruit also shines. Blackberry, plum and black cherry. Decant helps, but this is good right out of the chute.
