Step 1: Register as a Buyer
You must register to bid. Click on Buyer A/c in the top menu. Create a Username. This is your public "face" when you place bids or send messages through the website - so take a moment to decide whether you wish to present a real name or a more anonymous "handle".
To complete registration, enter a valid email address and choose a login password, then click on the REGISTER button. You'll be taken to your new Buyer Account page. From here you can edit your settings at any time. You can also logout if you need to.
Step 2: Monitor What Is For Sale
There are several ways to keep an eye on what's currently for sale on Cellartrade.
To search for a specific wine and/or vintage year, enter the first few letters in the search box near the top of the home page (eg. "Haut" would find any bottles of Haut Brion or Haut Bailly; "1986" would find any wines from that vintage).
To browse by various wine categories, hover over the Auctions menu item to reveal a detailed drop-down menu, then click on your preferred wine category. This drop-down also provides a number of other useful auction filters.
To "tag" an auction for possible future bidding, click the Add to Watchlist! button on any individual auction page. You can revisit all your tagged auctions by clicking the My Watchlist filter in the Auctions drop-down menu.
If you wish, you can opt in to our Daily email newsletter which summarises all new auctions added to the website each day. To do this, click on "Our Newsletters" in the website footer area.
Step 3: Place Your Bids
Each wine auction displays a "bid amount" box which is surrounded by a + & - sign. By default the box displays the minimum allowable bid (representing the current winning bid plus the minimum bid increment set by the Seller for this auction). You can override this default bid amount by typing in any higher number in the box. You can also use the + & - buttons to toggle the amount up and down. Once happy, press the red BID button and then click the confirmation dialogue box to submit your binding bid.
Our system provides immediate automatic feedback about the status of your bid.
To review the current status of all your auction bids at any time, click on My Active Auctions in the Auctions drop-down menu.
Step 4: Complete Your Purchases
When you win an auction, our system sends you an automated email with a weblink to login to Cellartrade and submit an online Purchase Order Form to the Seller (you can also add a note to the Seller, and amend your default delivery address, if needed). Or, if you are already logged into Cellartrade when the auction ends, visit the My Active Auctions page (in the Auctions drop-down menu) and click the PAY NOW button to load the online Purchase Order Form. Please submit your order form promptly - our system will send you a nagging email reminder every 24 hours until you do.
Once you've submitted your Purchase Order Form, the Seller takes the lead in managing subsequent communications. In due course you should receive a sequence of further update messages as follows: (i) confirmation of the invoice total & payment account details (ii) confirmation of safe receipt of your payment (iii) confirmation of dispatch of the wine with a courier tracking number if available. Each message will generate an email alert for you, as well as updating the overall Purchase Order record in the Orders tab of your Buyer Account webpage.
If you need to send another message to the Seller, visit the Seller Profiles page and search for the Seller name there. You can then send a message via the pink contact button on their individual profile page.
Step 5: Submit Seller Reviews
We encourage Buyers to provide feedback on the quality of service provided by each Seller that they purchase from.
To do this, click on Seller Profiles in the main menu and then visit the Store page of the individual Seller that you wish to review. Now click on the Reviews tab where you can see other Buyers' reviews and submit your own review and a 1-5 star rating.
Where the Seller has fully met their own clearly stated Terms & Conditions, and the wine is fully as described, we would recommend a maximum 5 star rating. (We don't feel it's fair to mark down simply because you're not keen on the Seller's Terms & Conditions, where they have been clearly stated and complied with - after all, you were free not to purchase from this Seller if you found their Terms unacceptable!).
You are free to edit your Seller Reviews at any time to reflect any service improvement or deterioration in subsequent transactions.
